Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 each garlic cloves
  • 1 each onions sliced
  • 1 each green bell peppers sliced
  • 4 ounces mushrooms sliced
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • all-purpose
  • 2 1/4 pounds beef
  • steak
  • 1/2 teaspoon basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme
  • 2 cups tomato puree (passata)
  • 1 cup tomatoes chopped

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet or cast iron skillet.
  2. Saute garlic, onion, green pepper and mushrooms until tender.
  3. Flour the meat.
  4. Brown in the oil with the vegetables.
  5. Add seasonings, tomato puree and tomatoes.
  6. Cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours over low heat.
  7. Add a small amount of water as needed to maintain the steamy-simmer.
  8. It will make a thick gravy.
  9. Serve with mashed potatoes and cut green beans.
