Slice onion into 4 medium-thick slices (depending on preference).
Place onion slice between 2 meat patties and pinch edges together.
Season with salt and pepper.
Brown patties on both sides.
Combine soup and 1 can of water; Pour over patties; Cover and simmer for 45 minutes on top of stove, turning a couple of times to cook meat and onion completely.
Serve covered with gravy (over mashed potatoes, rice or toast, if desired).
