Ingredients
- 1 lb raw uncooked brown pinto beans
- 1 water
- 1 salt and pepper to taste
- 1 each bacon fat/grease from 1lb of bacon or about 6tbl.
Instructions
- pour all bacon grease\fat into a large pot.
- open bag of beans.
- grab out a handful and look at them.. pick through the beans and pick out any bad ones.
- and put good ones into a bowl.
- bad beans would be beans that are badly discolored, excessively wrinkled,.dried up mold, exsessive dirt, u may even find rocks.

- bad beans can ruin your entire pot or give you a bad taste in your mouth.
- or break a tooth if you hit a rock.
- good beans will have a nice color, no wrinkles, no black spots, nice shape.. see photo of good beans here.
- ok now you have your bowl of good dry beans.
- now you need.to wash them.
- beans are dirty, they have dirt on them.
- so you must wash them.
- run under cold water swooshing your hand around the bowl.
- keep rinsing until water is no longer cloudy.
- fill bowl with water.. do you see Any floating beans?
- pick them out.. some but not all bad beans will float.. discard all bad beans.
- drain beans.one last time.
- add beans to pot.
- fill pot with water to about 2 inches from the top.
- cook on high heat until out stats to rapid boil.
- lower heat to medium low.
- simmer for 4-6 hours, periodically adding water as needed as to not scorch your beans.. add salt and pepper to taste.
- stir beans frequently do they go not stick to the bottom.
- beans will start to float as they cook.. don't worry these are good beans.. :)
- beans are done when they are soft and you have a nice thick brown juice around them.
- serve!
- my mom poured her beans over bread and had an open faced sandwich.
- you can serve them alongside your favorite meal.
