  • 14 cup butter
  • melted
  • 8 slices French bread or 8 slices Italian bread
  • 4 eggs
  • 23 cup orange juice
  • 14 cup sugar
  • 14 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 14 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 14 cup butter
  • 12 cup orange juice
  • 14 cup sugar

Instructions

  1. To prepare toast, pour melted butter into a 13 x 9-inch glass baking pan.
  2. Tilt pan to coat the bottom evenly.
  3. Arrange bread slices in a single layer in the pan.
  4. Whisk eggs in a medium bowl until well beaten.
  5. Add orange juice, sugar, vanilla and nutmeg.
  6. Whisk until well blended.
  7. Pour over bread, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate 2 hours or overnight.
  8. Preheat oven to 375F.
  9. Remove plastic wrap from pan and bake, uncovered, 30 minutes or until golden.
  10. To prepare syrup, melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  11. Add orange juice and sugar.
  12. Cook until thoroughly heated and the sugar has dissolved.
  13. Do not boil.
  14. Serve with French toast.
