Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 12 cup vegetable oil
  • 14 cup molasses
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 12 teaspoons baking soda
  • 12 teaspoon salt
  • 12 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 14 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 18 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 4 teaspoons sugar
  • if desired

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 375.
  2. In large bowl, mix 1 cup sugar, the oil, molasses, milk and egg with spoon.
  3. Stir in remaining ingredients except 4 t. sugar.
  4. Divide dough in half.
  5. On ungreased cookie sheet, pat half of dough into 14 x 2 inch strip.
  6. Cut strip lengthwise in half into two 14 x 1 inch stripes with long knife; using knife, seperate strips at least 3 inches.
  7. Flatten strips slightly with fork with 1 t. sugar.
  8. Repeat with remaining dough.
  9. Bake 12-14 minutes or until edges are light brown and tops appear cracked; cool 15 minutes.
  10. Cut each strip crosswise into 1 inch slices; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack.
  11. Store loosely covered.
