Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion
  • chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • chopped
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 (28-ounce) can whole tomatoes
  • crushed (or 2 pounds fresh tomatoes
  • chopped)
  • Pinch sugar
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil leaves

Instructions

  1. In a medium pot over medium-high heat, pour in the olive oil.
  2. Add the onions and cook until lightly browned, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the garlic and season with salt and pepper, to taste.
  4. Give it a stir and cook for another minute.
  5. Add the tomatoes, sugar, and basil.
  6. Reduce the heat a bit and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.
