Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 14 cup water
  • 12 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Butter 15 x 10 x 1 inch jelly-roll pan.
  2. Set aside.
  3. Combine butter, sugar, water and salt in heavy 2 quart saucepan.
  4. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a full boil.
  5. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until candy thermometer reaches 300 or small amount of mixture dropped into ice water forms a hard brittle strand [18-22 minutes].
  6. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla.
  7. Pour mixture onto prepared pan; spread to desired thickness.
  8. Sprinkle chocolate chips over hot candy; let stand 5 minutes.
  9. Spread melted chocolate evenly over candy.
  10. Cool completely; break into pieces.
