Bulgar Pilavi (Cracked Wheat Pilaf)

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons butter or 4 tablespoons margarine
  • 1 onion
  • finely chopped
  • 1 cup bulgar cracked wheat
  • 3 cups water or 3 cups beef broth
  • salt

Instructions

  1. Melt 2 Tblsp.
  2. butter in a large skillet over medium to high heat.
  3. Add onion, and stirring constantly, fry until soft, about 3 minutes.
  4. Add bulgar and remaining 2 Tblsp.
  5. of butter and fry for another minute, stirring constantly to mix well.
  6. Stir in water or broth, and bring to a boil.
  7. Reduce heat to simmer, cover, and cook for about 25 minutes until bulgar is tender.
  8. Add salt to taste, stir well.
  9. Serve warm.
