Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 3 lbs stewing beef
- cubed
- 2 large onions
- sliced
- 1 (20 ounce) can tomatoes
- 2 garlic cloves
- pressed
- 1 cup sliced celery
- 14 cup chopped parsley
- 1 bay leaf
- 12 teaspoon ground thyme
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 12 teaspoon pepper
- 2 12 cups water
- 12 small carrots
- sliced
- 1 cup peas
- 12 small white onions
- 6 potatoes
- quartered
- 12 cup flour
- 34 cup cold water
Instructions
- Melt shortening in 6 quart pot and brown meat.
- Add next 10 ingredients and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 2 hours.
- Add next 4 ingredients and simmer, covered, 1 hour.
- Blend flour with cold water and stir into stew to thicken.
